Kerala SDMA advises people to stay indoors after the mercury reaches 40 degrees in many districts at noon
The Kerala State Disaster Management Agency (SDMA) has advised people, particularly the elderly, not to go outside and be exposed to direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
This comes on the heels of the state's temperatures reaching record highs well before the typical summer arrives. The state is experiencing a heat wave, with Kannur airport in North Kerala recording the highest temperature of 41.3°C this season on March 4.
Temperatures above 40°C were also recorded in Panathur in Kasargod district, Aaralam in Kannur district, Nilambur in Malappuram district, and Manarkkad in Palakkad district.
The India Meteorological Department has also warned residents to be prepared for a hot summer in the state. The weather service has also stated that there will be no snow.
